Service Pack 2

Microsoft periodically releases major updates for its operating systems called "Service Packs." The last such update is called Service Pack 2 (SP2). Computer Security improvements were one of the main focuses of this release.

You need to install at least Service Pack 1 in order to continue receiving Windows Update which will be covered in the next section. It is highly recommended that you also install SP2 to take advantage of improved security features including:

Protection from harmful attachments
Windows Security Centre (more detail below)
Pop-up blocker
Improved Internet Explorer Security
Improved Wireless Network support

How to check which version of Windows XP

Click "Start" then select "run"
In the box type "winver" as per below:

You should the following - note "Service Pack 2" at the end of the 2nd line:
